With the thrill and excitement that comes with us moving in less than a month, also comes the terrifying realization that is we have less than a month to pack up an entire house. Having moved 7 times in my life, averaging only 3.75 years at each location, you would think I've become a moving guru.
Regrettably, this is far from the truth. The moves that took place when I was young had professional movers who came and packed up our whole house. When graduating from College it was as simple as grabbing all the stuff from my single room, load it into the back of a U-Haul and drive down to Atlanta to live with some fraternity brothers; with many of the items not even packed up, but literally thrown in the back of the van.
Our most recent move was my first real move I've ever done; but even this was a simple and quick one day move. We were moving only across town and as a family we still didn’t own that much. Some items were thrown away, but mostly we just loaded everything into boxes and then we had a company called Two Men and a Truck come over and move us. They won’t pack boxes, but they will load up all the packed boxes and move all your furniture for you. So with my dad, me and another buddy of mine helping them, we were able to load up the truck and unload it all in one day. The unpacking of the boxes took more time, but even that was relatively easy.
Right from the beginning, I knew this move was going to be different and would take a lot more work and time to get it done. Since living in our current house, our family has gone through many changes. We welcomed Aiden to our family, along with all the toys and items needed to raise a baby. My wife’s sister moved in with us a few months ago, along with all her plants; pretty sure she has the greenest thumb of anyone I know. And as with any growing family, we've since acquired many more items to slowly transform our house into a home.
So last night, was the first night of actually starting to pack things up. Working till 6 pm makes it hard to get a lot done, but just taking that first step was a great milestone in this adventure. I told Emily that I want to make sure that we don't just pack up everything and take it over to the new house. I want us to take our time, go through everything, sell what we don't need, donate what we can't sell, and throw away anything that should have been in the dump a long time ago.

| DVD's galore |
I decided I was going to tackle our living room first so that we had a room we see every day clean and empty and motivates us to keep attacking each room in the house. As you can see in the picture above, we had a lot of DVD's on shelves. Most of the movies hadn't been watched in as long as I can remember, and even a few had never even been opened. That big pile on the left, that’s going to be listed on Craigslist and some local Facebook groups that people here in Colorado use to sell things. Whatever I can't sell will be donated to Goodwill. The much smaller pile on the right is some movies that we really enjoy and every animated Disney movie we own. Wife would have kicked me if I tried to get rid of any of those. I am a movie buff at heart, and being able to trim down the number of DVD's we are taking to the new house was very encouraging. If I can make myself get rid of movies, I know that when we get to other areas I will easily be able to lighten the load and not just take things to the new house that we will never use.
